What is AsPen®?

AsPen® replaces and protects the binder lost through the damaging effects from oxidation from the sun. AsPen® is chemicaliy engineered to reverse the effects of aging and to seal the pavement and help prevent raveling prolonging the service life of the pavement substantially.

How does AsPen® work?

For all of its outstanding qualities as a paving material, hotmix alone is no more impervious to the effects of time, weathering and tough service than any other construction material. With the passage of time, the need for maintenance becomes signaled by dryness, brittleness and other visible signs of deterioration, such as loss of matrix, raveling, cracking and spalling.

AsPen® is excellent for its ability to delay the aging process of hotmix from the outset and to reverse any premature aging that might be caused by construction variables such as excess heat at the manufacturing plant, excess voids caused by low temperatures during compaction, critical mix design and other inconsistencies. All of these factors leave the finished surface of hotmix vulnerable to air and water intrusion, chief causes of premature aging.

By replenishing the binder lost through oxidation and weathering, any moderately aged asphalt can be protected, and strengthened as well as renewed to its original colour and look. This can be achieved by spraying AsPen® directly onto the asphalt surface to combine with the existing binder forming a protective surface treatment. Permeability tests confirm that even after several years AsPen® continues to repel air and water.

How Aspen® Works

AsPen® is a specially modified bitumen emulsion designed to rejuvenate and prolong the service life of asphalt pavements. AsPen® replenishes the Asphalt Binder™ that is lost through the oxidation and aging process.

AsPen's exceptional "wicking" properties enable it to penetrate much deeper into the asphalt pavement than unmodified asphalt emulsions. As AsPen® penetrates it seals and waterproofs the pores in the asphalt and dramatically decreases the oxidation process as well as greatly reducing the damaging effects of freeze/thaw cycles.

Uses of AsPen®

AsPen® is designed to both prolong the life of new asphalt pavement as well as to rejuvenate older & oxidised pavement. AsPen® replenishes the bitumen content when performing heat scarification or other surface recycling work.

Does Not Require compaction
AsPen® produces a tack-free surface when dry and does not require sanding prior to opening pavement for traffic. The result is added savings and increased safety for vehicle traffic.

Fast Drying
AsPen's fast drying action allows pavement to be opened up to traffic soon after application (typically one to two hours after application under ideal weather conditions). This means less down time and greater flexibility in scheduling performance of maintenance work.

Attractive Black Colour
AsPen's rich, deep black colour gives oxidised pavement a "like new" appearance which enhances the vibrance of any line markings.

Product Description:
SealMaster® Acrylic Pavement Sealer is a premium quality 100% acrylic emulsion designed for coating asphalt pavement surfaces. The acrylic sealer is mixed with select aggregate and applied to the pavement surface producing a very tough durable, slip resistant coating. SealMaster® Acrylic Pavement Sealer resists scuffing and tracking into buildings and onto floors. It is also resistant to fuel and chemical attack.
